We love to read, so stop in and talk books with us! Come see why Frommer's Boston 2008 says "If [independent bookstores] were all run as well as this one, with staffs this helpful and selections this brain-tickling, the species would be anything but endangered." While you're here get a cup of Equal Exchange coffee or tea at Cafe Zing right in the store, and browse while you sip. We are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Can't make it to the store? Visit us virtually on Everyscape
Not sure what you're looking for? Take a look at our Staff Picks or the Indie Next List updated monthly. Be sure to sign up for our customer appreciation program. (Teachers and non-profit organizations, we've got discounts for you, too!) Finally, don't miss our ever-changing, always exciting events. Looking for a great gift? We've not only got a terrific selection of books but blank journals, calendars, cards, and other great items to boot! Providing you with outstanding service is our highest priority. If you can't find what you're looking for, email us and we'll do our best to provide it. Thank you for letting us be your neighborhood bookstore.

When: Tuesday, July 7, 2009 7:00 PM Location: Porter Square Books Description:

Mike Farrell co-chair emeritus of Human Rigts Watch in California nad President of Death Penalty Focus
"I have never read a more compassionate understanding of the realities of a family torn apart by horrific murder. This book--ultimately a book about hope--promises to change all who read it." Michael Patrick Macdonald author of All Souls and
Easter Rising
For the last twenty years, Brian Macquarrie has been a reporter and editor for the Boston Globe, where he has covered a wide range of major breaking stories, including the invasion of Iraq, the September 11, 2001 attacks, and Hurricane Katrina. He lives in Boston.

Icarus at the Edge of Time
by
Greene, Brian
A good story, beautiful pictures, and brilliantly designed by Chip Kidd, this book is a compelling and entertaining introduction to the science of black holes. The story is about Icarus a brilliant young man aboard the Proxima, a space ship designed to travel for thousands and thousands of years, from Earth to a distant planet. One day, Icarus realizes that the Proxima will be the only world he knows as he will die long before it reaches its destination and decides to do something daring. Despite the book's large format is it probably best for ages 10 and up. Josh |

The Posthuman Dada Guide: Tzara & Lenin Play Chess
by
Codrescu, Andrei
A vibrant and playful work of philosophy, The Posthuman Dada Guide by renowned writer Andrei Codrescu confronts the challenges of contemporary society with the ideas of a radical art movement from the early 20th century; dada. Through Codrescu's telling the joy and nonsense of dada become a powerful counter force against the consumerism and dogmatism at the heart of so much of the world's problems. Along the way Codrescu introduces us to some fascinating and forgotten characters like the poet, artist, muse Mina Loy, as well as original ideas for describing contemporary society, such as the "e-body." A fun, challenging, joyful work. Josh |
